When is the Eta Aquariids 2026 maximum?


The maximum occurred during the night of 5–6 May 2026. For observers in Poland and Central Europe, the best practical window was before dawn, when the radiant was higher and the sky was still dark enough.
It is not an event that usually works like a short fireworks show. Plan at least 30–45 minutes outside, and longer if the sky is clear and you are away from city lights.
Will the Eta Aquariids be visible from Poland?


Yes, the Eta Aquariids can be seen from Poland, but expectations should be realistic. The radiant stays relatively low, so the number of visible meteors is usually lower than in the southern hemisphere.
In 2026 the bright Moon made the challenge bigger. The best results came from dark sites with an open sky and good transparency.
What time should you watch and where is the radiant?


Watch in the last part of the night before dawn. Do not stare only at the radiant; meteors can appear across a large part of the sky.

- let your eyes adapt to darkness for at least 20 minutes,
- look broadly across the sky, not through a telescope,
- avoid phone screens or use a red-light mode,
- dress warmer than the daytime temperature suggests.

The Moon was the main limiting factor for the 2026 maximum. Its light brightened the sky and hid many faint meteors, so the shower was quieter than the headline numbers suggested.

The Eta Aquariids can be photographed with a wide-angle lens, tripod and repeated exposures. The key is patience: many frames may show nothing, and one good meteor can appear after a long wait.
