Finland Is Flying 16 Singles In for Free! Four Days, Two Cities and a Surprise Dinner Date
Visit Finland is selecting 16 adult international singles for two fully hosted, four-day food trips to Finland in February 2027. Eight participants will travel to Helsinki and eight to Tampere. The experiences run between 9 and 19 February 2027 and end with group dinner dates joined by local Finnish singles. Applications close 10 November 2026 at 11:59 a.m. Finnish time (EET, UTC+2). Applicants need an English-language video and the official form. It is a travel campaign, not a guarantee of finding a partner.

A four-day trip to Finland with the major expenses covered sounds like a dream giveaway. This time it is a real campaign from the country's official tourism organisation. Finnish Dinner Date is the latest chapter of Have some Finnish, a project designed to introduce Finland's regional food culture through shared meals and experiences.
Before anyone starts planning a winter itinerary, there are important details to understand: the two destinations are different, the programme is hosted rather than self-directed, and the final dinner is a group event, not a guaranteed romantic match. Here is what the official sources actually say.

Finland is choosing 16 singles. What does the winner receive?
The Finnish Dinner Date campaign will select sixteen international participants and split them into two groups of eight. One travels to Finland's coastal capital, Helsinki; the other heads to Tampere in the Lakeland region. Each person joins just one four-day programme, not a ten-day tour or a trip covering both destinations.
The destination is a surprise revealed when a selected participant confirms their place. The itinerary includes hosted activities, local food and a tasting dinner designed around the region. Each of the two groups is then joined by two local Finnish singles for the final meal.
The words blind date are promotional shorthand. According to Visit Finland, this is a relaxed group dinner, not one-to-one matchmaking. Nobody is promised a relationship, an individual date or a seat beside any particular person. The reliable benefit is the food-led journey, the hosts and the chance to meet people.
The campaign follows earlier 2026 tasting experiences in other regions of Finland. Its purpose is to make Finnish cuisine a reason to visit, rather than treat it as an afterthought to the scenery.
Is everything really free? What is included and what still needs checking
Visit Finland describes the selected participants' trip as all expenses paid and promises a fully hosted four-day itinerary. That covers the organised travel experience, accommodation, programmed meals, activities and the culminating tasting dinner. It is not a cash prize for choosing any hotel or travel date.
| Item | What the published programme says |
|---|---|
| Travel to Finland | Covered as part of the organised trip |
| Accommodation | Included during the four-day stay |
| Food | Hosted meals and the official tasting dinner |
| Activities | The planned, hosted itinerary |
| Personal shopping | Not stated to be included |
| Insurance, documentation, taxes and extra expenses | Check the current campaign terms and individual invitation |
“All expenses paid” should not be read as an unlimited reimbursement of private spending. Applicants should review the official terms to see which journeys are covered, what happens if plans change and whether personal travel insurance, documents, taxes or incidental expenses remain their responsibility.
The precise menu and surprise dinner venues are not an invitation to book those locations independently. The experiences form part of a curated campaign, and details can differ by region. When in doubt, the official terms and Visit Finland's direct confirmation take precedence over social-media headlines.
Helsinki or Tampere? Two completely different experiences
The stays share a format but not the same landscape or menu. Helsinki is a Baltic Sea capital shaped by design, urban food culture and waterfront life. Tampere places visitors near the lakes, forests and sauna traditions of Lakeland. Participants do not get to choose a preferred city.
| Helsinki region | Tampere and Lakeland |
|---|---|
| Baltic waterfront, architecture, markets and cafés | Lakes, forests, historic mills and Finnish sauna culture |
| Official tasting menu by Adele Kinnunen | Official tasting menu by Henry Tikkanen |
| Urban experiences and seasonal ingredients | Lake and forest ingredients with regional traditions |
Helsinki: a winter city with the Baltic Sea on its doorstep
Helsinki blends the harbour, market halls, museums, contemporary design and restaurants serving seasonal local food. During winter, the glow of cafés and waterfront streets contrasts with short daylight hours. These are useful ideas for an independent trip; Visit Finland has not promised every attraction in the competition itinerary.

The Helsinki tasting menu is designed by Adele Kinnunen, head chef of Café Savoy and runner-up on the Finnish MasterChef Professionals. The group dinner takes place in a surprise setting rather than a venue announced in advance. Explore the official Helsinki programme.
Tampere: lakeside life, saunas and the taste of Lakeland
Tampere sits between lakes Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi, with an industrial waterfront built around Tammerkoski. The wider Lakeland landscape is associated with frozen lakes, forests, public saunas, lakeside traditions and meals shaped by local ingredients.

Henry Tikkanen, the restaurateur associated with Gösta at the Serlachius Museums, creates the Lakeland menu. He represented Finland at Bocuse d'Or and was Finland's Chef of the Year in 2001. The region is known for freshwater fish, berries, mushrooms and mustamakkara, a black sausage commonly served with lingonberry jam. Read Visit Finland's Tampere programme.
Neither city is a guaranteed northern-lights holiday. The competition is centred on people and food; someone planning a dedicated aurora trip should usually look much farther north into Finnish Lapland.
Why a pink supermarket basket inspired an international travel campaign
The unexpected inspiration for Finnish Dinner Date is the Finnish sinkkukori, or single basket. Some Finnish grocery stores have used pink shopping baskets as a playful signal that a shopper is open to meeting people. The idea circulated widely on social media and became an ingredient in Visit Finland's culinary promotion.
This is not a nationwide matchmaking programme or a service offered at every supermarket. The campaign borrows the simple idea of a chance encounter and takes it from the grocery aisle to a group dining table.
Other Nordic tourism campaigns have used equally attention-grabbing hooks. OndaTravel previously checked the real rules behind Visit Sweden's claim about “giving away” islands. In that case, as here, the official terms explain much more than the viral headline. See what Sweden's island contest really offered.

Who is eligible? Age, solo applications and practical conditions
Finnish Dinner Date is intended for adults aged 18 or over who are single and meet the campaign's complete eligibility conditions. People apply individually, not as a couple or a group of friends. There is no automatic place for a travelling companion.
The campaign is international, but nationality alone does not establish eligibility. Each applicant must be able to meet the current participation rules and travel at the organiser's dates. The selected group is not necessarily a reflection of every country that submits a video.
Applicants with accessibility or dietary needs should consult the official FAQ and contact Visit Finland before confirming a place. The programme and its activities may have specific practical limitations. It is also wise to read the privacy and filming terms: a tourism promotion may use photographs or footage of participants.
No application guarantees selection. Visit Finland evaluates submissions and contacts the people it chooses; simply sharing a post with the campaign hashtag does not make someone a winner.
How to apply: the English video and the form are both required
The official process has two mandatory components. A social video without the web form is incomplete; a web form without the link to the video is also incomplete. The campaign is only for applicants who meet the adult eligibility conditions.
- Record a short, authentic answer in English. The question is: What would you serve on a dinner date, and why? It is an opportunity to explain a personal idea, not to reproduce a professional restaurant menu.
- Publish the video on the designated channel. Use
#FinnishDinnerDateand tag the relevant Visit Finland account: Instagram@ourfinland, TikTok@visitfinland.comor YouTube@VisitFinland. - Check the visibility requirements. Instagram and TikTok entries must be public so the organisers can view them. YouTube accepts a Public or Unlisted video; anyone with its link can view an Unlisted video.
- Complete the official application form. Include the video URL and provide the requested details before the deadline. Do not use unauthorised sites claiming to collect entries.
The form is available at Visit Finland's official Finnish Dinner Date application page. Before applying, read the campaign's official instructions, FAQ and terms, including rules on using recordings, travel and privacy.
Visit Finland wants to see an authentic candidate and their real voice. An impressive edit is not a substitute for an honest answer. Think carefully about personal details visible in a public video, and remember that Unlisted on YouTube is not the same as confidential.
Important dates: applications close in the morning, not at midnight
The deadline is Tuesday, 10 November 2026 at 11:59 a.m. Finnish time (EET, UTC+2). That is 09:59 UTC and, for readers in Poland or central European winter time, 10:59 CET. The organiser does not accept late entries.
| Milestone | Official date |
|---|---|
| Deadline | 10 November 2026, 11:59 EET / 09:59 UTC |
| Winners announced | 1 December 2026, on Visit Finland social channels |
| Four-day trips | Scheduled within 9–19 February 2027 |
Selected people will be contacted personally. An announcement on a social profile is not a reason to hand over documents or payments to an unfamiliar account. Confirm the identity of anyone contacting you through Visit Finland's official channels.
Finnish cuisine worth discovering even without a competition win
This unusual competition is part of a wider effort to introduce visitors to Finnish food. Regional cuisine reflects lakes and forests, rye bread, dairy, fish, seasonal produce and berries. You do not need a place in the contest to discover it.
- Lohikeitto — comforting salmon and vegetable soup, often finished with dill.
- Karjalanpiirakka — Karelian pies, usually made with a thin rye crust and a savoury filling.
- Korvapuusti — cinnamon- and cardamom-scented pastries enjoyed with coffee.
- Mustamakkara — Tampere's regional black sausage, traditionally eaten with lingonberry jam.
- Kalakukko — a traditional rye-crust fish bake associated especially with eastern Finland.
These are food suggestions for an independent trip, not a promised list of courses at the Finnish Dinner Date. The two contest menus are designed by the named chefs; Visit Finland offers more information about Finnish food and local ingredients.
What if you are not selected? Finland still makes a compelling trip
Helsinki is a practical starting point for a Nordic city break full of museums, markets, restaurants and waterfront walks. Tampere is a contrasting destination with lakes, distinctive industrial architecture and a strong sauna culture. Neither trip needs to copy a contest itinerary.
If northern lights are the goal, geographical context matters. Helsinki and Tampere are in southern Finland and are not reliable aurora bases. Finnish Lapland, farther north, offers much better opportunities on dark, clear nights, although sightings are never guaranteed.
OndaTravel has a dedicated guide with a live northern-lights radar for Finland. It addresses weather, the aurora oval, seasonal timing and northern destinations, rather than the Finnish Dinner Date competition.

Is the opportunity real? Yes — but the prize is travel, not guaranteed love
Visit Finland has indeed announced 16 places on hosted four-day culinary trips, divided between Helsinki and Tampere, with adult participants meeting local singles over a shared tasting dinner. The application consists of an English-language video and the official form.
There are also meaningful limitations. Participants do not select the city or choose an unrestricted personal schedule. They are not paired off into guaranteed romantic dates. Expenses outside the organised programme, travel paperwork and consent to promotional filming all deserve attention before accepting an invitation.
Experience-led campaigns have become a creative way to introduce destinations. OndaTravel explores this shift in its guide to travel trends such as noctourism, coolcation and quietcation.
