Northern Lights Poland Live – Radar and Forecast

The radar is a quick „here and now” preview: it compiles, among other things, the auroral oval and current parameters that help assess whether it’s worth going out into the field. It’s best to use it together with the weather — without clear spells, the aurora is invisible.

The forecast helps plan the evening, but clouds often decide success. First check the cloud cover, and only then the activity — especially in Poland, where clear spells can be short.

The „aurora map” shows the extent of the auroral oval (where activity is most likely). When the oval „descends” closer to your latitude, the chance for the aurora increases — provided it’s dark and cloudless.

This cannot be guaranteed — conditions can „jump” in a short window, and cloud cover can ruin everything. The best routine: radar + weather + a quick decision to drive to a darker location.

The aurora in Poland occurs during stronger geomagnetic disturbances and with clear spells. Most attempts make sense during the long night season (autumn–winter–early spring), but current conditions are key.

There is no single fixed hour — the aurora can appear suddenly and disappear after a few minutes. It is most often observed after dusk until late at night; it’s worth checking the sky several times when the forecast and weather look promising.

An aurora alert is a signal that conditions may favor the aurora, but it is not a guarantee of visibility. When you see an alert: check the „live” radar, the weather, and consider driving beyond the city glow. An example alert for Poland: will there be an aurora in Poland (February 5–6).
